Micro Pause: A moment to reflect

January 8, 2026 by admin

Reflection often slips through the cracks. Not because leaders don’t see its value, but because there’s rarely space for it.

In a recent survey of senior executives, we asked about reflection. They told us: 60% struggle to make space for it, only 9% take time to pause. This isn’t a failing, it’s a reflection of how leadership is shaped today, fast, demanding and constantly shifting.

Reflection is a quiet, powerful discipline, a space to notice what’s working. To listen to what’s changing so that you can lead with intention. If you are ready to begin your journey into reflection, start by considering these reflection questions:

  1. What holds you back from taking that step into stillness?
  2. What would shift if you took a moment to pause and reflect?

Micro Pause: Support for Screen Fatigue

January 8, 2026 by admin

Screen time is unavoidable for today’s leaders. Long hours of back-to-back meetings and constant digital demands often mean you are so locked into your screen that you forget to blink.

Here is a quick Micro Pause to protect your eyes and ease the pressure: The Blink Break.

  1. Pause for a moment.
  2. Shift your attention and gaze at something far away.
  3. Blink slowly 10 times to reset your visual focus and release mental tension.

It is a small change that helps prevent fatigue, sharpens your focus and keeps you performing at your best. Try it today and notice the difference.

Micro Pause: Reset Without Breaking Flow

January 8, 2026 by admin

When you are deep in focused work and the pressure starts to rise, it can feel counterproductive to stop completely. Yet without a reset, your concentration frays and stress creeps in.

The S-Breath (also known as Sitkari in yogic breathing) is a quick Micro Pause that restores balance without pulling you out of flow.

Why the S-Breath works

  • Reduces stress and anxiety
  • Lowers body temperature
  • Calms inner imbalance
  • Takes only seconds

How to practise it

  1. Pause and step back mentally from your task.
  2. Gently press your teeth together and part your lips.
  3. Inhale through your teeth for a slow count of three, focussing on the cooling hiss.
  4. Close your mouth and exhale slowly through your nose for a count of five.
  5. Repeat for up to ten rounds, or adjust the rhythm to suit your breath.
  6. Notice the difference: cooler, calmer, more focused.

Try this next time you feel the pressure building but still want to keep your momentum.

Navigating Personal Change

January 8, 2026 by admin

For leaders facing change, burnout, or the moment when a door has just closed, it is tempting to rush forward. To plan the next step, to fix, to solve.

Yet you do not need to have it all mapped out. Taking a pause will not change what has happened, but it might transform how you move through it.

That is why I wrote Pause. Not to hand you ready-made answers, but to remind you that you are not alone when life feels uncertain. Sometimes the most powerful move is simply to stop, breathe, and allow space for what comes next.

If this resonates, you can find Pause here:

Moonlight Meditation: A Simple Reset for Busy Leaders

January 8, 2026 by admin

We used to spend our days in both sunlight and moonlight, drawing energy from each. In summer, it is easier to reconnect with this natural rhythm, and the rising full moon offers the perfect invitation.

Try a simple evening walking meditation to embrace the quiet power of moonlight:

  • Focus on the moon if it is safe to do so or simply walk with the awareness that it is there.
  • Breathe mindfully, imagining each inhale draws in the moon’s calm light.
  • Release tension with every exhale, letting go of what no longer serves you.
  • Pause for reflection, noticing your thoughts and feelings under its glow.
  • Open your heart, lifting your arms in appreciation of the moon’s beams.

Even a few mindful steps in the moonlight can reset your mind, soothe your body and restore your energy. On cloudy nights, you can moon bathe by lying beside a window and letting its glow soften your dreams.

If you would like to be guided through this experience, listen to the Summer meditation from my audiobook Walking Meditations, now available on Audible.

HR Leaders: An Unconventional Coaching Approach to Unlock Team Potential

January 8, 2026 by admin

The HR function is naturally people focused. Day to day, you and your team are absorbed in the strategic, tactical and reactive demands of looking after others. It is meaningful work, but it often means your own deeper development and growth becomes an afterthought.

Yet to make a real difference in the lives of others, you first need to go deeper into yourself. The better you know and understand yourself, the better equipped you are to help your team grow and realise their potential.

Untapped Potential

Every leader carries extraordinary untapped potential. Each of us has a built-in guidance system that can help us access this potential and elevate our lives. When you learn to tune into intuition, dreams and higher consciousness, the place where innate wisdom resides, you expand your ability to shift, grow and create lasting results.

Unlocking your own potential naturally elevates those around you. To inspire others to achieve extraordinary things, you first need to commit to self-enquiry and self-awareness.

Expanding Capacity

As an HR leader, you already know the importance of investing in personal development. You have learned how to manage the pressures of everyday leadership. And yet, deep down, you sense there is more.

There are realms of practice you have not yet touched. Ways of being with others that do not require effort, or having the right answer, or fixing the problem. Instead, a way of being that allows people to grow at their own pace, in their own way.

Imagine being able to connect fully with your deepest insights in a conversation. To access wisdom beyond your own experience. To find stillness in the moment with no need to move someone forward, and yet witness their transformation unfold.

Transformational Coaching is about expanding this capacity: learning to do less but create more.

Deepening Practice

This work is not about replacing what you already know. You already have a strong foundation: the ability to listen, to empathise, to really see another person. Transformational Coaching builds on that foundation, integrating modalities that bring mind, body and spirit into the practice.

When you deepen your practice, something shifts. You meet yourself with compassion, and in turn others learn to meet themselves in the same way. You learn to support yourself, and naturally guide others to support themselves. You amplify your own light, and others begin to shine more brightly too.

It is always a twin journey: your own growth becomes the source of others’ transformation.

The Work Will Show You the Way

The encouraging truth is that this kind of exploration is always within reach. It does not require signing up for a qualification or committing to another major programme alongside the demands of your role.

Instead, it begins by treating everyday life as a live learning laboratory. Each interaction and each experience become an opportunity for self-inquiry and growth. With the right mindset and a simple set of practices, you discover that the work itself shows you the way.

When you shift into this way of learning, you find it easier to flow through your own challenges and aspirations. At the same time, you inspire your team to sustain themselves and step into their full potential.

If you know you are here to make a difference, supporting your team in this way is one of the most rewarding journeys you can take. The beauty of it is that you never quite know where it will lead. Coaching, at its essence, is an intimate journey you take with yourself, destination unknown.
